SignatureDLY

v1.0 Delay Effect AUv3 Plugin Stereo
01 — Introduction

Introduction

SignatureDLY is a professional stereo delay effect designed as an AUv3 audio unit extension. Built for live performance and studio use, it delivers warm, musical echo with a filtered feedback loop and an intuitive rotary control interface.

The plugin runs inside any AUv3 compatible host application on iPhone and iPad, integrating directly into your audio processing chain with full preset and automation support.

10 ms – 2000 ms

Delay time range from tight slap-back to long ambient repeats.

Filtered Feedback

High Cut and Low Cut filters applied inside the feedback loop for tone shaping.

Rotary Interface

Five hardware-style knobs with professional graduation marks.

Zero Latency

Zero allocation and zero locks on the audio thread. Real-time safe.

Requirements

Platform: iPhone and iPad (Universal)
Minimum iOS: 16.0
Plugin format: AUv3 Audio Unit Extension (aufx)
Host app required: AU EngineCore or any AUv3 compatible host
02 — Getting Started

Getting Started

SignatureDLY is a plugin, not a standalone application. To use it, you need an AUv3 host application installed on your device.

In AU EngineCore

1
Open AU EngineCoreConnect your audio interface and set up your session.
2
Select a channel or busTap a channel strip or bus insert slot to open the plugin browser.
3
Load SignatureDLYSelect NobodysBanda: SignatureDLY from the Effects category.
4
Set your delay timeTurn the TIME knob. Double-tap any knob to reset it to its default value.

In Other Hosts

In any AUv3 compatible host, look for SignatureDLY in the audio unit browser under the Effect category, manufacturer NobodysBanda.

03 — Interface Overview

Interface Overview

The SignatureDLY interface features five rotary knobs arranged in a single row. Each knob is surrounded by professional graduation marks with numeric labels showing key parameter values.

Signal Indicator

A green LED in the top-right corner of the header lights up whenever audio signal is present at the input. It responds to both dry and wet signal levels and provides instant visual confirmation that the plugin is receiving audio.

Knob Interaction

Vertical dragDrag up to increase a value, drag down to decrease it.
Double-tapInstantly resets the knob to its default value.

Graduation Marks

Each knob displays tick marks and numeric labels at key positions along its 270° travel arc. The colored arc fill shows the current value relative to the full range. A white dot on the chrome cap indicates the precise position.

04 — Controls

Controls

SignatureDLY provides five controls covering all aspects of the delay effect.

Control
Range
Description
DRY / WET
0% – 100%
Mix between the original (dry) signal and the delayed (wet) signal. At 0% only the dry signal passes through; at 100% only the delayed signal is heard. Default: 50%.
TIME
10 – 2000 ms
The delay time in milliseconds. Logarithmically spaced — short times (10–100 ms) give slap-back and doubling effects; longer times (500 ms+) create rhythmic echo. Default: 250 ms.
FEEDBACK
0% – 100%
Amount of the delayed signal fed back into the delay line, creating repeating echoes. Low values produce a single repeat; high values produce long, sustained echo trails. Default: 35%.
HIGH CUT
1 kHz – 20 kHz
Low-pass filter applied inside the feedback loop. Rolls off high frequencies on each repeat, simulating the natural degradation of analog tape or spring delays. Default: 8 kHz.
LOW CUT
20 Hz – 2 kHz
High-pass filter applied inside the feedback loop. Removes low-frequency buildup from the repeats, keeping the mix clean and preventing muddiness. Default: 200 Hz.
Tip: The HIGH CUT and LOW CUT filters only affect the feedback path — they shape the repeats but leave your original dry signal untouched.
05 — Signal Path

Signal Path

Understanding the signal path helps you make informed decisions about how the controls interact.

Output

Feedback Loop

The delayed signal is multiplied by the FEEDBACK value and added back to the delay line input on each cycle. The HIGH CUT and LOW CUT filters are applied within this loop, so each successive repeat is filtered once more — simulating the progressive tone degradation of analog hardware.

Dry/Wet Mix

The final output blends the unprocessed input (dry) with the output of the delay line (wet). This blend is a simple linear crossfade: output = (1 - wet) × input + wet × delayed.

Stereo Operation

SignatureDLY processes left and right channels independently with separate delay buffers and filter states. The delay time and feedback are identical on both channels, ensuring the stereo image remains coherent.

06 — Presets & Automation

Presets & Automation

SignatureDLY integrates fully with the preset and automation systems of its host application.

Saving and Loading Presets

All five parameters are exposed as automatable AUv3 parameters. Any host that supports AUv3 preset saving can store and recall complete settings. In AU EngineCore, presets can be saved per-channel or as part of a session.

Preset Recall

When a preset is loaded — whether by user selection or by host automation — all five knobs update instantly and the audio engine reflects the new state within the next processing buffer. There is no click or discontinuity during preset transitions.

08 — Tips & Best Practices

Tips & Best Practices

Start with TIME, then dial in Feedback

Set the delay time first — it determines the rhythmic character of the effect. Then gradually raise FEEDBACK until the repeats feel musical. Stay below 70% to avoid runaway feedback buildup.

Use HIGH CUT for Analog Warmth

Lowering the HIGH CUT frequency (try 4–6 kHz) simulates the natural roll-off of tape and bucket-brigade devices. The repeats become progressively darker and sit behind the dry signal in the mix.

Keep LOW CUT Above 100 Hz

With high feedback values, low-frequency energy can accumulate in the delay loop and muddy the mix. Setting LOW CUT between 100 and 300 Hz prevents this without audibly affecting the character of the echoes.

Slap-Back in Under a Second

For rockabilly or vintage vocal slap-back, set TIME to 60–120 ms, FEEDBACK to 0%, and DRY/WET to 20–35%. The result is a single tight repeat that adds depth without clutter.

Double-Tap to Reset

Double-tap any knob to instantly return it to its default value. This is useful for A/B comparisons — reset a single parameter while keeping all others in place.

Stack with SignatureEQ

Insert SignatureEQ after SignatureDLY to shape the final wet signal. A gentle high-shelf cut above 10 kHz softens the repeats and integrates the effect seamlessly into a dense mix.
